TAMPA, FL – La Segunda Central Bakery, the largest producer of Cuban bread in the world, will open a second location in South Tampa in early summer.
The new 3,000-square-foot bakery and café at the redeveloped shopping plaza at 4001 W. Kennedy Blvd., will serve breakfast and lunch and offer indoor and outdoor seating, a barista coffee bar and a to-go window.
The focal point of the new location will be a state-of-the-art hearth oven and finishing table where guests will be able to watch La Segunda’s expert bakers and pastry chefs prepare many of the bakery’s signature items, all made by hand.
The new location will offer the same menu of breakfast and lunch favorites that is available at its Ybor City bakery, including La Segunda’s fresh-pressed Cuban sandwich, guava and cheese turnovers, quesitos, Italian cookies, Flan Scacciata and other Ybor City staples.
Customers will also be able to pick up loaves of fresh-baked Cuban bread with the bakery’s signature Palmetto leaf on the top.
“We’re extremely excited for this expansion,” said Copeland More, La Segunda’s fourth-generation owner. “Our new bakery and café will bring a slice of Ybor City to South Tampa. As we open this additional location, we remain committed to our roots of baking history every single day.”
“As a family-owned and -operated business, we have a profound respect for our craft and the legacy from which it has been handed down,” said third-generation owner Tony More Jr. “We’re honored to celebrate the many cultures that have built the Tampa community and, through our new South Tampa location, introduce La Segunda to others who may not be familiar with our heritage.”
The expanded location will provide indoor seating options for approximately 80 guests, a long barista bar, banquette seating and a 12-foot-long community table that can be reserved for up to 14 people.
There will also be USB ports throughout the café so that customers can power their electronic devices.
Outside, a covered patio will provide seating for an additional 20 guests and will be pet friendly.
Additionally, La Segunda is embracing its second century of baking history with the introduction of a refreshed logo and an updated website.
The announcement of La Segunda’s expansion into south Tampa comes on the heels of the bakery’s 103rd anniversary, which was celebrated Jan. 15.
